UN officials have described Gaza as a “hellhole”, with the organisation in talks to begin an aid operation “as quickly as possible”. Fears are growing over the scale of the humanitarian crisis, with more than a million people displaced and Gazans’ access to medicines, water and other supplies dwindling fast. Gaza has been cut off from food, water, fuel and electricity by Israel since the deadly attack by Hamas on October 7. With world leaders calling for humanitarian aid to begin urgently, the first of 20 aid truck could cross into the besieged enclave later today from Egypt via the Rafah crossing. Satellite images showed a massive convoy of trailers lined up at the border crossing on the Egyptian side.
