An international team of 56 researchers in five countries has confirmed a hypothesis first proposed by the ancient Greeks – that different diseases are characterized by different “chemical signatures” identifiable in breath samples. This was proven by the team led by Professor Hossam Haick of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology Wolfson Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute Haick and his team have developed the Na-Nose that can detect 17 different diseases including cancer from the breath and are developing Sniffphone for disease detection through a Smartphone.
