Western Norway is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, but its deep fjords and steep, ice mountains also pose numerous challenges for drivers. It takes around 21 hours to travel the over 700 miles between the cities of Kristiansand in the south and Trondheim in the north, with an average speed of about 30 miles per hour and the assistance of seven ferries. A multi billion infrastructure megaproject by the Norwegian government is poised to replace the ferries with bridges, conventional tunnels and—shocking the American engineers—the world's first floating tunnel as part of a multibillion dollar infrastructure project.
