The launching of the “EL HIND“ ship for the Scindia Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. of Bombay on the 18th of September in 1947 at Hammertons Clyde Bank shipyard. This is to be the first ship to sail under the newly independent India's flag. Attending the launch is Sir James Lithgow, David O'Ralka (?) Iralka (?) , the High Commissioner of India, and Mr & Mrs Walshand (?) Speeches are made and the ship, is launched after Mrs Walchand (?) blesses the ship in Hindi. The 8000 ton vessel designed to carry passengers and cargo slides down the slipway and into the water.
