A volcano which has not erupted in 100,000 years appears to be the site of an ongoing intrusion of magma. This intrusion has resulted in two notably damaging earthquakes which effected approximately 200 homes, even causing some walls to collapse. So, why exactly is magma intruding underneath a volcano that for all intents and purposes should be extinct? This video will answer the aforementioned question and attempt to analyze the severity of the ongoing situation. Approximate coordinates for the center of the magmatic intrusion: 6°45'“S, 106°31'“E Thumbnail Photo Credit: U.S. Geological Survey, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, Public Domain, This image was overlaid with text, then was overlaid with GeologyHub made graphics (the image border & the GeologyHub logo). Note: This video's thumbnail image displays what the magmatic intrusion underneath Indonesia's Kedeng volcano at 5 to 9 kilometers depth might look like. Kedeng is not erupting as of December 15th of 2023. This video's thumbnail image text and video title assumes that the Kedeng volcano is showing signs of life after a long dormancy. However, this volcano could still be extinct and instead a regional intrusion of magma merely used the underground plumbing of this volcano as a path of least resistance upwards.
