Marek Weber, one of the most popular and productive bandleaders of the 1920s and 30s returns with 2 songs from the 1931 comedy “Bomben auf Monte Carlo“ - which was made in German, French (“Le Capitaine Craddock“ and English versions ( “Monte Carlo Madness“). The music was composed by Werner Richard Heymann. The first video features the classic tango “Eine Nacht in Monte-Carlo“ (A night in Monte-Carlo). Together with Dajos Bela, Marek Weber was a symbol of highly skilled and elegant popular music in Germany during “roaring 20s“ and the Weimar era and sold millions of records... He not only recorded popular tunes from the stage and movies but also recorded many classical compositions as well as selections from operas etc. After the nazis came to power in 1933, Marek Weber - who like Dajos Bela was jewish - had to leave Germany. He eventually settled in the USA where he became known as the Waltz King. He died in Chicago in 1964. For more info on Marek Weber : The singer on this record is the equally popular Leo Monosson (1897-1967) - credited as Leo Moll one of the aliases when making recordings for different record companies... More information on him can be found here : The French version of this tango can be found in my friend Camille885 excellent channel : The video features of the stars of the German version of “Bomben auf Monte-Carlo“ as well as pictures of Monte-Carlo.
