Courtney Love - Northern Star - San Francisco, Live, 7-25-13, 1st row, The Independent. Courtney: “This is me doing a shot. It's a really embarrassing thing; I'm not a drinker. I hate alcohol it's gross, lol.“ Other Tidbits: Several fans lined up extra early for the show, hoping to meet Courtney when she went in to do the sound check. Unfortunately, she never showed, but everybody ended up enjoying the extra attention as a result of being 1st row center. For example, at the end of the set, Courtney put her pick directly into my hand, in addition to playfully feeling around my head during 'Gold Dust Woman'. However, the fan next to me definitely got the most attention, responding on stage to his shout-outs, handing him cigarettes and even kissing him on the lips! Courtney is very funny, especially during the between song banter. Some highlights include responding to a fan holding a sign that said she legally changed her name to 'Miss World', prompting Courtney to demand to see her driver's license. Yep, her legal name is Miss World! You can see the conversation at the end of 'Dying'. Another was Courtney jokingly commenting on the state of the aging equipment of this small 500-capacity club, saying that “this sound system makes me feel like it's 1989“ and that the reason she can't play 'Awful' or 'Mono' is because she's got Axl Rose's monitor and it can't handle it. You can hear the quips at the ends of 'Skinny Little Bitch', 'Asking For It', and 'Dying', and at the beginning of 'Doll Parts'. :P Some other funny comments include fielding fan inquiries about her smoking, drinking and why she identifies with transsexuals. “I don't know why I do, but I do.“ lol. Liza Thorn, the lead singer to the opening band, Starred, looks so much like Courtney Love that when she got out of her van, many fans started taking pictures of her. “I'm not Courtney..“ She declared with a wry smile. What's even more funny is that Liza dresses very similar to her doppelgänger, and to top it off, her voice and songs are very similar as well! The crowd really liked her set, featuring songs which easily could have been Hole songs, although the stage was so dark that the audience couldn't really see her. Liza had a hard time seeing too, as she couldn't even read the setlist and kept having to hold it up to the light. :P Liza also seems to have fun with the similarities between her and Courtney, as we later met her at the bar in the trendy restaurant across the street (Nopa), and she was seeing if she could trick the bartender into giving her a free drink by saying that “she's with the band.“ lol This tour was originally scheduled as a warmup tour for her new album, playing only small venues, but her album's release date is now December, so no new material was performed. P.S. The San Francisco hospital that Courtney Love was born at, St. Francis, is actually on the corner of Hyde and Bush. At the end of 'Malibu', the guy next to me (the same guy that got kissed on the lips), said Sutter because Courtney looked right at him while asking the question, and someone behind him kept yelling confidently 'Sutter!' However, it is near Polk street as Courtney believed, where yes, people did and still do turn tricks :P Setlist: 1. Plump 2. Skinny Little Bitch 3. Gold Dust Woman 4. Pacific Coast Highway 5. Violet 6. Malibu 7. Letter to God 8. Asking For It 9. For Once in Your Life 10. Jennifer's Body 11. Celebrity Skin 12. Reasons To Be Beautiful 13. Miss World Encore: 15. Petals 16. Dying 17.
