During the war he became known for charismatic leadership & courage in combat. Hitler, said of him “If I were to have a son, I would want him to be like Degrelle.” Leon quickly rose in rank due to his exceptional courage, & engaged in dozens of combat missions, while also being wounded on numerous occasions.
