An alternate grappling hook entity type different from the one used in the game can be used through the Serious Editor. Unlike the in-game one, this one can attach to any solid object (except Legion System) at any range, but there’s no first-person arm animation and the hook comes from the crotch. This has been restored as a mod that can be used by mappers as a custom weapon resource for SS4:
