Wrexham AFC, the oldest football club in Wales and the third oldest in the world, has been making headlines ever since it was taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in February 2021. The duo, who are best known for their roles in Deadpool and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia respectively, have injected new life and energy into the club, which plays in the fifth tier of English football. Reynolds and McElhenney have not only invested millions of pounds into the club’s infrastructure, facilities and staff, but also engaged with the fans and the local community through social media, documentaries and charitable initiatives. They have also brought in some high-profile signings, such as former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who joined Wrexham on loan in January 2023.
