Caught this lil’ guy dreaming about a drum solo and thought we’d transcribe it. Compositionally, the solo holds up to analysis: We begin with a confident dotted-eighth hemiola, followed by a flourish of double-bass blast beats. The drop in dynamic intensity at measure 4 draws our attention closer as we transition to the groove section at Letter A. Here, we hear a mix of duple and triple subdivisions held together with a strong backbeat on count 3 of each bar. Particularly impressive is the use of the ride bell in this section. The solo concludes with an understated fill — catnip for drummers!
