Eddy (real name Tapani Lehikoinen) was a promising new pop star in the end of 60's. His biggest hit “Ei itkut enää auta“ was recorded in 1967. Eddy was the lead singer for the beat group Eddy & The Lightnings but went solo in 1966. For some reason his career as a solo singer didn't last long and in 1972 he stopped recording. The original song 'The Days of Pearly Spencer' was written and sung by Northern Ireland singer-songwriter David McWilliams. It was released in 1967 and was a huge radio hit but inexplicably failed to chart in UK, but was number one in France. It's ''psychedelia' vibe and the combination of McWilliams' heartfelt lyrics and song style ((distorted vocals were produced by using megaphone) with Mike Leander's evocative arrangements of the simple melodies still sound fresh and captivating today. The song was based on a homeless man who was befriended by David McWilliams. The song reflected the writer's deep humanity and his empathy with those who live on the margins of society.
