Rozhdestvensky gives a firsthand account of musical life in the former Soviet Union Watch here the first part of the interview: Subscribe to EuroArts: It is a joy to speak and listen to Gennadi Rozhdestvensky - not only because he is one of the greatest artists of the past century, even though that goes without saying. He has also directly experienced one of the cruelest and restrictive dictatorships of the 20th century, which means that he is one of the few remaining witnesses who can speak about what it was like to live and work as a musician in the former Soviet Union - and with each year that the dictatorship moves further into the past, firsthand accounts such as this become ever more rare and valuable. Accomplished director Bruno Monsaingeon spent days with Rozhdestvensky, ultimately condensing countless stories into this program.
