Featured on Alexander O’Neal’s album Hearsay, the song Fake was originally released in 1987 and was a smash across both the soul and pop charts. It shot to number on the Hot Black Singles chart for two weeks, and on the Hot 100, it peaked at number 25. ‘Fake’ was O’Neal’s most successful single on the dance charts and peaked at number seven. The track was later interpolated for the Patti LaBelle's 1997 song When You Talk About Love, repeating the “Patti Patti“ refrain after the singer demands her background to say her name.
