In 1978, BMW produced their only true supercar which remains so as of today - the M1. It was quite an extraordinary & distinctive car considering shape of it’s body, engine placement and predatory exhaust sound. The racing version would follow a year later and was designated as the M1 ProCar. In order to promote the car, one-make championship serie was organized where identical BMW M1 ProCar race cars were to compete. Different Formula One drivers such as Niki Lauda and Mario Andretti were invited to take part in a competition against touring car racing professionals. The ProCar championship lasted only 2 seasons, from 1979 to 1980, but it was well enough for the car to seize it’s moment of glory and become one of the most memorable race cars in the BMW Motorsport history.
