The Brecker Brothers Band was a groundbreaking fusion jazz ensemble formed by the talented siblings Michael and Randy Brecker. This group played a pivotal role in the fusion jazz movement of the 1970s and 1980s and left an indelible mark on the world of contemporary jazz. Michael Brecker, born on March 29, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a virtuoso saxophonist and composer. His younger brother, Randy Brecker, born on November 27, 1945, in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, was an accomplished trumpeter and composer. In 1975, the Brecker Brothers Band was formed, featuring Michael on saxophone and Randy on trumpet. Their music was characterized by a fusion of jazz with elements of rock, funk, and R&B. The Brecker Brothers Band released a series of influential albums, including “The Brecker Bros.“ (1975) and “Back to Back“ (1976). The Brecker Brothers Band collaborated with renowned artists such as Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, and Jaco Pastorius. Despite the tragic loss of Michael Brecker in 2007, the legacy of the Brecker Brothers Band lives on through their recordings and the enduring influence they've had on the world of fusion jazz. This song was performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival on July 11th, 1980. Watch more World of Jazz videos ► Join us.
