And this is, of course, where Boney M.'s phenomenal success started! Released May 31, 1976, Take The Heat Off Me was a fantastic debut album including the #1 singles Daddy Cool and Sunny, firmly propelling Boney M. into the disco era. The very first Boney M. single Baby Do You Wanna Bump had been released February 1975 and was a faceless studio project as producer Frank Farian had recorded all the vocals himself. When demand for performances in the discotheques arose, Farian decided there was no way he was suitable to perform it in front of an audience. Instead a line-up of friends Maizie Williams & Sheyla Bonnick was formed with Claudja Barry and a guy called Mike. Sheyla and Mike quickly left and were replaced by Marcia Barrett and Bobby Farrell. After one show in Berlin Claudja Barry decided to leave the group and go solo. By then the single was eventually starting to climb the charts in Holland and Belgium.
