On that day, it became the scene of the most lethal use of force by security forces against civilians in the country’s post-apartheid era. Heavily armed police officers opened fire on a group of miners who had been striking over poor working conditions at a platinum mine owned by British conglomerate Lonmin. The shooting left 34 miners dead and another 78 with serious injuries. Over a decade later, the community and victims’ families feel that justice has not been served. The case serves as a chilling example of the toxic alliance between politicians and capitalism in the ‘new’ South Africa, where people’s well-being is regularly sacrificed at the altar of profit. #Marikana #SouthAfrica #Johannesburg #Politicians #Capitalism #SecurityForces #Civilians #Apartheid #Armed #PoliceOfficers #Miners #Platinum #Britain #Decade #Victims #Justice --------------------SOCIAL----------------------- FACEBOOK - INSTAGRAM - TIKTOK - @africanstream TWITTER -
