No titles. Basildon, Essex. Various shots of four plastic domes that have been erected at Basildon to provide shelter for market stalls. We see inside the domes, empty except for the bare stalls. Each dome has lighting. General views of work in progress on a new flyover - the main reason for the new domes. Several shots of the old market, with people looking at goods, buying and selling. Stalls seen are selling potted plants, records and eggs. A man on the record stall looks very cold. Back at the domes we see the market in full swing with people wandering about and looking at stalls. Commentator talks of this being just one of the ideas of this “go-ahead town“ for communal living. Cataloguer's note: I think the domes look a bit dreary and smelly, but they must have seemed very modern at the time. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
