Being inspired by a book and without any sailing experience or doubts holding him back he went looking for a small boat that fitted his budget. He found a Hurley 18 from 1970 for 3000 euro’s and bought it. After fitting it out for longer trips he drove it to Greece on a trailer and learned how to sail it with a friend. After sailing across the whole Mediterranean towards Gibraltar he felt ready to cross the Atlantic. Sailing all the way to Antigua from Lanzarote took him 30 days.
