The film takes place in small town America, in a place called Midvale, and extolls the American values that are promoted by Scouting. At 1:00, a man named Ike Stewart arrives at his office for another workday. The narrator talks about how Stewart is a great asset in the workplace because he knows how to listen, and because he knows how to take criticism constructively, and how to learn from others. These are parts of his personality that he owes to his time as a Boy Scout. At (2:20), Stewart is seen as a young man in a Boy Scout uniform, sitting by a camp fire with an older man, his Scout Master (2:43). At (3:00), Stewart takes feedback from his boss Mr. Lane, while the narrator speaks about the importance of appreciating companionship of co-workers -- and again, the narrator attributes Stewart's easy social grace as part of his Boy Scout training. At (3:47), Stewart is shown as a Cub Scout, putting on his uniform. At (3:55), Scouts are seen putting on a play. At 4:19, a group of older Scouts are seen forming a “gang“. The film transitions back to the employee group, discussing their night out / social lives over lunch. The group has wonderful camaraderie and are referred to as a “gang“. The narrator comments on another value learned in scouting -- the desire to help others. At (6:14) Stewart is shown as a Boy Scout leader mentoring a younger Scout. At (9:15) Stewart is shown attending church, and the narrator emphasizes how religious faith is one of the values of Scouting. At (9:45), the walk home from church is shown, where Stewart met a girl named Mary -- and younger Stewart is shown as a teen with girls on the beach, where he learned the value of respect for women, and develop poise and confidence. The film concludes with how the values of Scouting, including self-reliance and working together, help make America's future secure and great.
