Ocean sunset painting tutorial with oil paints: Learn how to paint a realistic pastel ocean sunset, with a rolling wave, distant ripples and soft clouds. In this tutorial, I use the alla prima (wet on wet) and blending techniques. I start by blocking in the main shapes, forms and colours of the sky and distant ocean, then detailing the ripples and working on the wave. Learn how to mix sunset colours and layer paint to achieve a golden hour effect. I use Cranfield Artists' Oil Colours: The colours I use from Cranfield are: -Titanium white -Burnt Umber -Bright Yellow Lake -Yellow Lake -Magenta -Naphthol Vermillion -Phthalo blue Read the blog: The other supplies I use are: -9x12“ wooden panel -Red sable rigger brush -Goat mop brush (for blending) -Filbert bristle brush -Tempered glass palette -Linseed oil medium
