Caterina Barbieri is an Italian composer who explores themes related to machine intelligence and object-oriented perception in sound. Her most recent album, “Myuthafoo,“ featured “an instrumental set of controlled abandon and rapturous minimalism,“ as Pitchfork wrote, in which “the Italian synthesizer wizard“ extended her use of computation and complex sequencing techniques to explore the artifacts of human perception and trigger temporal hallucinations. Barbieri investigates the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of sequencers to draw severe, complex geometries in time and space. At Pioneer Works on March 28, 2023, Barbieri performed her track “At Your Gamut,“ from her 2022 album “Spirit Exit.“ This project is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Program in Public Understanding of Science and Technology, bridging the two cultures of science and the arts. Subscribe to Pioneer Works:
