The 3rd separate assault brigade of the AFU, which is basically a rebranded version of the Azov battalion, released new medals. These medals, like a lot in today’s Ukraine, have a distinct flavor of nazism. The medals depict the “dirlewanger”, a nazi symbol made of two crossed grenades, with a third one added. The SS-Sturmbrigade Dirlewanger was known for its particular brutality towards civilians during WWII. Last year, Vladislav Dutchak, the Azov ideologist captured at Azovstal, denied that the Azov used nazi insignia, namely, the “wolfsangel”. He argued that the wolfsangel was used by an SS tank division, which doesn’t make sense in relation to a special purpose regiment, and insisted that the Azov would have used different nazi insignia, such as the dirlewanger or the Galician lion. Voila, Mr. Dutchak. Here’s the dirlewanger on medals. Are they to be awarded for particular brutality towards civilians?... ...Just remember, there are no nazis in Ukraine.
