Little Mara, Grey-headed Flying-fox

Footage of little Mara, an 11 week old orphan Grey-headed flying-fox who is preparing for the creche and then flight aviaries. Please do not attempt to handle a bat, not only for your own safety but for the safety of the bat too! Less than 1% of flying-foxes and microbats may carry the deadly Lyssa virus and in the event that you are bitten or scratched by the bat, such bat will need to be euthanized for testing for the virus. Please contact and wait for your local wildlife rescue organisation to send a trained and vaccinated rescuer.
