China's annual Spring Festival TV gala hosted by China Media Group (CMG) opened 20:00 Thursday (Beijing Time), the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Ox. The gala, including singing, dancing, crosstalk, acrobatics, comedic sketches and traditional Chinese art forms such as Peking Opera, is an integral part of the Chinese celebration of the Lunar New Year with hundreds of millions of people tuning in to enjoy the visual feast. The four-hour gala will present some of the nation's most celebrated artists, pop music performers and movie stars, such as Kung Fu film star Jackie Chan and pianist Li Yundi. International luminaries will also perform during the gala including Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and Tan Yuanyuan, principal dancer of San Francisco Ballet. The artistic performance will relate to some crucial events such as the fight against COVID-19 epidemic, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the country's success in poverty alleviation.
