In this video, we are going to check out a few of the main drums/instruments that make up the percussion section of many modern Egyptian bands. Of course, there are many more drums and instruments than this, and we will try to get into them into some other videos but these are the basics that drummers and dancers should recognize when listening to modern Egyptian music. We will look at tabla, dohola, duff, and tura as well as how the Khaleegy bendir and western drum kit fit into the Egyptian 'Firqa' or music ensemble. Learning the different drums and their roles within the music can help both dancers and drummers so much when it comes to distinguishing different rhythms and separating the rhythm from the accents which is a huge step in being able to understand Egyptian and Middle Eastern music in general. The technique for each kind of drum varies greatly as well as their role within the music, some are used mostly for ornamentation while others hold up the rhythm, all of these elements come together
