Jeff Beck - 'Beck’s Bolero' | North Sea Jazz (2006) We published this video on January 10, 2024, to commemorate this great artist on the anniversary of his unfortunate death , one year ago. He was one of the best. This is his ''Beck's Bolero' of his first solo album 'Truth' way back in 1968 that was the start of his incredible solo career. 'Beck's Bolero', written by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), is a rock instrumental recorded by Jeff Beck in 1966. It is Beck's first solo recording and has been described as “one of the great rock instrumentals, epic in scope, harmonically and rhythmically ambitious yet infused with primal energy“. “Beck's Bolero“ features a prominent melody with multiple guitar parts propelled by a rhythm inspired by Ravel's Boléro. Date & Venue: FRIDAY 14 JULY 2006 • NILE • 21:45 - 23:00, Ahoy Hall, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. LINEUP: Jeff Beck (guitar); Jason Rebello (keyboards); Randy Hope-Taylor (bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums). Geoffrey Arnold Beck (24 June 1944 – 10 January 2023) was an English guitarist. He rose to prominence as a member of the rock band the Yardbirds, and afterwards founded and fronted the Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice. In 1975, he switched to an instrumental style with focus on an innovative sound, and his releases spanned genres and styles ranging from blues rock, hard rock, jazz fusion and a blend of guitar-rock and electronica. ABOUT this concert: this was the press-release in 2006: In the mid-seventies guitarist Jeff Beck released Blow by Blow and Wired, two albums that are considered the best and most successful instrumental fusion albums ever. But also before and after these milestones this master guitarist had – and still has – a striking career. We first learned about the now 61-year-old Beck back in the beginning of the sixties, when he replaced Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds. A few years later he started his Jeff Beck Group, featuring a/o Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, and he laid out the fundaments of a style that, later, was to be called heavy metal. The fact that Beck often interrupted his career in the following years has everything to do with his adoration for fast cars. He loves being in the garage under a Corvette just as much as being in the studio or on stage with a guitar. And it’s on stage where he manages to draw the strangest sounds from his instrument and usually he does that with out any sound processing pedals. He once said in an interview: “I love it when people come and listen to my music and can’t seem to figure out which instrument I am playing.” Jeff Beck is definitely one of the big names of the impressive fusion program North Sea Jazz presents this year. Drummer Vinnie Colaiuta is a musician with the same reputation. He can be heard on the albums of Sting, Zappa and Joni Mitchell and he sets an example for many drummers.
