FRONT row celebrities are a dime a dozen during Fashion Week, but when the world’s most famous athlete is sitting next to Anna Wintour - even the weariest of cynics sit up and take note. Funnily enough, en route to Victoria Beckham’s autumn/winter 2012-13 show on Sunday morning at the New York Public Library, one couldn’t help but notice Fifth Avenue’s HM flagship plastered with images of soccer star David Beckham in just his underwear - to promote his bodywear collection with the retailer. Moments later, there was the real thing - albeit fully clothed in a dapper suit, sitting amongst the fashion cognoscenti, to cheer on his wife. That’s certainly a lot of pre-show excitement, but the catwalk had its own set of delights to offer. Beckham remained rooted in her very specific vision of dressing, simple and sexy, but added touches of military influences to beef up her lean signature silhouette.
