Story of shock-vortex interaction during compressible vortex ring and trailing jet impingement on a cone Praveen Kumar Nuvvula, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur India Javed Mohd, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur India Murugan Thangadurai, CMERI Durgapur India Debopam Das, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur India DOI: The design of launchpads for space vehicles is of paramount importance to satellite deployment and space exploration. The interaction of exhaust flow and launchpad structure must be understood for reliable designs. We use a shock tube to model this phenomenon at a laboratory scale. In this direction, we have simulated two flow scenarios using computation fluid dynamics techniques to find out how the flow features evolve during this interaction. Through our results, an attempt could be made to find out which flow scenarios impart larger structural loading on the launchpads. See other videos from the 2021 Gallery of Fluid Motion: h
