Jinichi Kawakami is an expert practitioner of Kōka-ryū ninjutsu. Kawakami discusses the accuracy of ninja missions and the connection between ninja and samurai in “Batman Begins“ (2005), featuring Christian Bale and Liam Neeson, and “The Last Samurai“ (2003), starring Tom Cruise. He talks about martial arts choreography in and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles“ (1990). He also comments on the realism of ninja weapons (such as the shuriken and kunai) in “The Boys“ S2E5 (2020), “Mortal Kombat“ (2021), and “Naruto: Shippuden“ E476 and E477 (2016). He discusses the realism of ninjutsu training and skills in “Revenge of the Ninja“ (1983) and “Ninja Assassin“ (2009). Kawakami is the last heir of the Ban clan of Kōka-ryū ninjutsu. He is also the honorary director of the Iga-ryu Ninja Museum and a historical-ninjutsu researcher and lecturer at Mie University.
