Football bids farewell to a legend ► Sub now: The Bundesliga and the entire footballing world is mourning the passing of Gerd Müller. As announced by former club Bayern München, Müller passed away on the morning of 15 August at the age of 75. Having joined the record champions in 1964, Müller shaped German football like few others. With the national team, 'Der Bomber' won the 1972 European Championship and also the 1974 World Cup on home soil. He also lifted several domestic and international titles with Bayern, as well as being Bundesliga top scorer in seven seasons. His record total of 40 from the 1971/72 campaign was only surpassed on the final day of last season by Robert Lewandowski, when he scored his 41st goal of 2020/21.
