Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan held his last election rally in Istanbul on Saturday. Erdogan also called supporters to 'complete the unfinished work' of the first round where got 49.5% support, falling just short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff. Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the candidate of a six-party opposition alliance, has meanwhile complained of being under “a total blackout“. Kilicdaroglu received 44.9% support in the first round of vote. Turkey election 2023 took place amid a severe economic crisis and just three months after fatal earthquakes in SE Turkey killing more than 50,000 people.
