Performing in the Carnival of Stars Belly Queen Contest where I placed 2nd Runner Up. The competition required performers to do a piece harking from the golden age of belly dance. My performance pays tribute to the styles and themes of the 1950's. It draws inspiration from dancers such as Katy, Hermeen, Taheya Karioka, and Samia Gamal. Like many of these dancers in their classic films, I performed a theatrical piece. In this scene, the dancer -- myself -- finds herself in a dream where she is dreaming of the new love she has just met before falling back to sleep. The music is Kharamana by Farid al Atrache, performed by Layali El Sharq Ensemble on their album “Classical Egyptian Music for Raqs Sharqi.” It appears in the movie “Afrita Hanem“ with Samia Gamal and also goes by the name Mkhtarat Wahab.
