Sheriff Pat Garrett is best known as the man who killed Billy the Kid, but nearly 27 years later Garrett himself would be shot and killed in the desert near Las Cruces, New Mexico. While the city has gotten bigger over the years, the spot where Garrett's lifeless body was left on the side of the road still is in a remote area and little visited. On February 29, 1908, Pat Garrett was riding to Las Cruces with Carl Adamson to meet with a man named Jesse Wayne Brazel, who Garrett had been feuding with over goats. Along the way, Brazel arrived on horseback. The meeting would end with Brazel (or someone else) putting two bullets in Garrett. In this video we travel into the New Mexico desert to find the exact spot where Pat Garrett lost his life. Along the way we find traces of the old roads and talk about what happened in the desert near Las Cruces that day. Then we head to the old Las Cruces Masonic Cemetery to visit Pat Garrett's grave. ○ Gear we use:
