A Film directed by Vaclav Luks in 2013 Filmed at the Baroque Theater of Cesky Krumlov Castle Featuring Bejun Mehta, an American soprano counter-tenor : “Fair Use Notice“ Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use“ for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted. - I have provided the English subtitles. The end of Baroque Era saw the rise in France of Reform Opera. The intent was to create more realistic libretti, get rid of the excessive production features, use folk-like songs instead of the standard aria, BUT maintain the serious and grand storyline tradition. A significant composer of Reform Opera was Christoph Willibald Gluck (1714-1787). A German who eventually worked in France, he composed both Italian and French opera. His Orfeo ed Euridice (1762 - libretto by Ranieri de’ Calzabigi) is another reboot of the Orpheus and Euridice tragedy. The following excerpts illustrate the novel interaction between Orpheus and the spirits of Hades (normally Baroque choruses were isolated events).
