Mithras is not being hindered by the Dog, Snake nor the Scorpion. These animals are helping him. The Dog and the Snake are drinking the blood of the bull, the blood of life. They are not in competition with each other, the Dog represent Loyalty, Friendship, Trust and Honor. The Snake represents Wisdom and the Scorpion represents control over our desires and carnal natures for if we do not control them, then they will control/consume us and therefore we need to remain disciplined and mindful of our actions.
