“Wednesday, 30 August The start of the 5th stage is in Morella, the finish is in Burriana after 186.7 kilometres of riding. The number of metres in altitude is just under 2,400. Morella is located in the province of Castellón in the north of the Valencia region. Just under 2,500 people live there, but the village is visible from afar. It lies at an altitude of around 1,000 metres on a mountain peak. After the start, the riders first drive to the highest point of the day, the Ares del Maestre at 1,140 metres above sea level. After the descent, they head down into the valley to the historic hamlet of Culla. Once at the bottom, the road rolls on, at altitudes between 200 and 400 metres. In Onda, 75 kilometres from the finish, the riders could turn off and it would be only 20 kilometres to the finish. But instead they make a detour inland. From Benitandús, the road climbs up the Collado de la Ibola for 11.4 kilometres at an average of 3.9%. This figure is distorted, however, because near the village of Ain, the road drops slightly for one kilometre before becoming much steeper for the last 5 kilometres. Then even percentages of 10% are reached. After Collado de la Ibola, it is more than 53 kilometres to the finish. Mostly it goes downhill, but at Azuébar the road climbs for a few more kilometres. The highest point of this section is at kilometre 156. The last 30 kilometres are downhill for the first half and the rest is flat. The finish town of Burriana was also the scene of the Vuelta 33 years ago. In 1990, a team time trial was held there, which was won by the Lotus Festina team.“ ( & Routes 'n' Maps 'n' Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
