The band Boston derived its name from the city of Boston, Massachusetts. The group was formed in 1976 by musician and songwriter Tom Scholz, who was born and raised in Toledo. When Scholz was ready to release the band's debut album, he wanted to pay homage to the city where he had developed his musical career. He felt a strong connection to Boston due to his time spent studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and working in the city as a musician and inventor. Scholz and his bandmates decided to simply name the band “Boston“ to represent their musical identity and their association with the city.
