Titles read: “THE WAR IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC“. Solomon Islands. Various shots show a convoy of troopships carrying American soldiers moving into the waters near the Solomon Islands in the early dawn. Below decks the guns and shells are loaded. Good shots of the guns of the convoy firing as an all-out attack is mounted on the Japanese-held islands. Ships move in and Marines form a landing force. They land on Florida and Guadalcanal Islands, an action which turned the tide of the war in the Pacific. Various shots of piles of dead Japanese soldiers after the Marines came ashore. The US soldiers stand around looking at the corpses. Japanese prisoners of war are rounded up. Commentator says “They may lose face by defeat, but who wants a face like that anyway? I wonder how many of these fanatical monkey-men expected to be treated in the same way as they handled our men after Hong Kong and Singapore?“ FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
