For undivulged reasons, the well-educated Ikushima has traveled to the small town to work in the low-paid position of meat skewer for a restaurant. His employer, Seiko (Michiyo Okusu), is a sly restaurateur who admits to a former life of prostitution and sets her new charge up in a boarding house which is fronted by a shrine dedicated to tramps and misfits. Once Seiko takes him to his dilapidated room and he begins his job preparing kebabs, Ikushima meets misfits aplenty. From the grim-faced tattooist, Horimayu (Yuya Uchida), to the overweight prostitute who recites railroad station names while she works, all of Ikushima’s fellow-residents are appropriately kooky. Top of the curiosities for Ikushima is Aya (Shinobu Terajima), a sexy Korean girl who needs money to support both herself and her jailed brother.
