“Sunday, 7 May Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia is a stage with a hilly start and middle section, but a flat finish. A good opportunity for the sprinters to let off steam after more than 200 kilometres of cycling. The stage starts with a false-flat descent, then a 5.4 kilometre climb with 4.4%. Up to kilometre 40 it's undulating up and down, then the Giro reaches sea level. The next 40 kilometres could not be flatter. In the village of Silvi there is a 4.2 kilometre climb with 5.4%. About an hour further on the plain, a 4.5 kilometre climb with 6.2% awaits in Chieti and a little later the last climb of the day. In Ripa Tetina the road climbs 5.8% over 1.9 kilometres. At the summit, there are still more than 70 kilometres ahead of the peloton. The route continues south along the Adriatic Sea on flat roads. The finish line is in San Salvo, where the Giro was last held in 2020. Back then, San Salvo was the starting point and now it will undoubtedly be the scene of a bunch sprint. In the last kilometre, the riders always charge straight ahead towards the finish line. The route of stage 2 follows mostly the same roads as stage 7 in 2021, when Caleb Ewan sprinted to victory in Termoli. “ ( & Routes 'n' Maps 'n' Flags) Route data: Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
