The UK economy fell into recession in the final part of last year, official figures released today have confirmed. The update will be worrying news for Rishi Sunak, who previously said growing the economy was one of his five key priorities as Prime Minister. It also comes three weeks before Jeremy Hunt delivers his Budget. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters - or two three-month periods in a row - where gross domestic product (GDP) declines.
