Immigrants in Cuba Cuba has a long history of immigration, with people from many different countries and cultures arriving on the island over the centuries. The most significant waves of immigration to Cuba occurred during the 19th and early 20th centuries, when large numbers of Spanish, Russian and Chinese, and African people came to the island to work on sugar plantations and in other industries.
