Reducing the forces of water entry Tadd Truscott, Splash Lab, Utah State University, Logan, UT Nathan Speirs, Splash Lab, Utah State University, Logan, UT Rafsan Rabbi, Splash Lab, Utah State University, Logan, UT Jesse Belden, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport, RI Zhao Pan, Florida State University DOI: The water entry of a sphere has a considerable impact force. By manipulating the fluid in front of the sphere one can greatly reduce the impact force. We explore three types of force reduction in this video: a sphere in a jet, a sphere following a smaller sphere, and a sphere impinging on a worthington jet.
