These horses are being sored, which is the application of chemicals to the legs so that they overreact to create the “big lick“ gait. It is unacceptable to consider animal abuse acceptable just because there are people winning ribbons and prizes for such practices. The Tennessee Walking Horse is naturally an absolutely beautiful, docile, good natured animal and we should be showcasing their natural abilities. I truly don't understand how anyone can take such advantage of the beautiful Tennessee Walking Horse and alter its gait until it is no longer clear what animal it is. We must urge the public facilities that our tax dollars are paying for to no longer host these Big Lick classes. You can google where padded performance AKA Big Lick classes are taking place all over the south east USA and contact them directly. WNC AgCenter in Fletcher, NC is a great start.
