Arthur Friedheim (1859-1932), a student and close colleague of Liszt plays “The Banjo“, by 19th century American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, in this ca. 1920 Duo Art reproducing piano recording #5745-8. Add &fmt=18 to the URL for stereo. Friedheim began to study piano as a boy about the year Gottschalk died in 1869 at age 40. I find this recording interesting for the somewhat halting, free rhythm, quite different from the strict meter and tempo of most modern performances of this piece. The piano
