Here is a video about recording live drums in the acoustic jazz idiom. I do this on a regular basis in the studio for many different types of jazz projects. I show you the microphones and setup I prefer as well as demonstrate the drums live. The mics I am using are: 2 Neumann U 89i Condenser overheads set to Cardioid 4 Schoeps CMC-6 mics with the hyper-cardioid capsule on the snare toms and hi hat. A Shure Beta 52 on the bass drum. The preamps are Grace designs. There is no compression or equalization is used in this video. The drums used in this video are 1982 Gretsch Centennials. 18“ x14“ Bass, 10“x 8“ tom 14“ ×14“ floor tom. The snare is a 1950's 14“ x 6.5“ WFL Ray McKinley Drum. The cymbals are: 20“ Paiste Traditional Flat Ride 18“ Paiste Traditional Flat Ride 21“ Istanbul Agop Jazz Ride 16“ Paiste Traditional Thin Crash 1950's K Zildjian Hihats
