Man Uses Chip Implant to Pay at London Gas Station A customer sparked some confusion at a gas station in London in early October as he used a chip implanted in his hand to make a payment. This point-of-view video shared by the TikTok account @paybyhand shows the man waving his hand over the contactless sensor on a credit-card machine to pay for fuel. A ‘beep’ signals that the payment has been successful, and the bewildered cashier asks how he did it. “Magic,” the customer responds with a laugh. In reality, he’d used a “payment implant” from a company called Walletmor. The implanted chip allows people to pay for transactions using their hand. He described the procedure — which takes about 15 minutes, according to the Walletmor website — as “completely painless”, leaving only a “small scar.” “I’ve been getting priceless reactions from people. Everyone who noticed it has been very curious about it and thought it is a great idea,” he told Storyful. While that user finds the chip to be a “very convenient way of paying — even telling Storyful hopes to have his driving license, passport, and medical information on one — some experts warn the chips could cause problems regarding privacy and security.
