Any lover of Iranian cinema will know this song from the 1972 short film “P Like Pelican” by iconic filmmaker Parviz Kimiavi, about an old hermit who lives in the slums and wants to teach the children there the alphabet. This song was sung by a little boy in the film and the melody has always held profound nostalgia for Azam. Somehow it stirs the painful emotions of saying goodbye to her motherland.
